A. WORK SESSION

Roll Call: 6 members present, 1 members absent, 0 members excused.

Mayor Sherman called the meeting to order at 6 p.m.

1. Review of Master Agenda by City Manager.

Tarron Richardson, City Manager, reviewed upcoming items on the Master Agenda.

Councilmember Ledbetter arrived at 6:02 p.m.

2. Discussion of Regular Agenda items.

3. Quarterly update from DeSoto Chamber of Commerce.

This item has been rescheduled for another date.

4. Discuss and consider additions to the proposed 2012 Council Work Plan.

After Council discussion, it was the consensus of Council to include Goal #10, Item J "Honor contributions of the U.S. Military by creating and broadcasting on the City’s cable channel a video showcasing a soldier and his/her family that are stationed overseas".

5. Councilmember Place 6 updates for DeSoto Economic Development Corporation (DEDC).

Councilmember Zander provided an update on DEDC activities.

B. REGULAR SESSION - CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Sherman called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.

1. Invocation by: Gregory Drake, Jubilee Community Church.

2. Pledge of Allegiance led by Councilmember Jerry Edgin.

3. Ambassador: Roderick Tasby, Police Department.

Roderick Tasby has been employed with the DeSoto Police Department for 5 years. He currently works as a Patrol Officer.

Roderick lives in DeSoto with his wife of 19 years. They have a 20 year old daughter and a 17 year old son.

In his spare time, Roderick enjoys basketball, football and cooking.

H. CITIZEN APPEARANCES

I. ITEMS OF COMMUNITY INTEREST

Councilmember Ledbetter announced the City is still accepting names for the upcoming Civic Academy. For additional information, call 972-230-9643.

Mayor Pro Tem Valentine announced the Arts Commission is currently accepting applications for the arts grants program through August 15th. Saturday, July 30th, an application workshop will be held at 10 a.m.

Councilmember Lockhart announced the "Beehive" production Sat/Sun 2:30 p.m.; Fri/Sat 7:30 p.m. at the Corner Theater. Tickets cost $20 evening/$15 matinee.

Councilmember Respess announced DeSoto Night Out on August 2nd.

Councilmember Zander encouraged residents to visit the new Marilyn's Fine Foods at the corner of Hampton Road and Pleasant Run Road. He also announced that the DEDC is searching for a new Executive Director. Part of that search will include input from residents during a public forum to be held on August 13th at 9 a.m.

Councilmember Edgin commented on the "Beehive" production.

Mayor Sherman announced that on DeSoto Night Out, Council will, once again, partner with DISD Trustees to visit the neighborhood activities. He also congratulated the DeSoto High School 7 on 7 Football State Champions.
