Mayor Sherman called the Work Session to order at 6 p.m.

1. Review of Master Agenda by City Manager.

Assistant City Manager, Tarron Richardson, reviewed upcoming items on the Master Agenda.

2. Discussion of Regular Agenda items.

3. Discussion of the conceptual plan for roundabout at the intersection of Pleasant Run Road and Hampton Road.

Tom Johnson, Managing Director of Development Services, commented on previously presented renderings for possible developments, which depicted a roundabout in the intersection of Pleasant Run Road and Hampton Road.

Brian Shamburger with Kimley-Horn presented a PowerPoint presentation providing information on roundabouts and different options for construction.

Council discussion regarding foot traffic and related increased sales at businesses located around a roundabout; and installation of roundabout as a way to slow down traffic and encourage visiting development.

4. Discussion regarding Garage Sales.

This item was rescheduled for the February 15th Work Session.

Mayor Sherman called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.

1. Invocation by: Ministerial Alliance Volunteer. In the absence of a volunteer, Mayor Sherman provided the invocation.

2. Pledge of Allegiance led by Mayor Pro Tem Denise Valentine.

3. Ambassador: Keith Jones, Police Department.

Keith Jones has been employed with DeSoto Police Department since July of 2000.

Keith earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Technology as well as his Advanced Peace Officer Certification. Keith has taken several graduate courses and hopes to earn a masters degree in the future.

Keith has been married to Adrienne for 20 years and has three children aged 19, 17, and 14.

Little Known Fact: Keith enjoys church, cycling, and running.

C. PRESENTATIONS

1. Presentation by the Mayor to recognize the Veterans Advocate Group of North Texas.

2. Quarterly update from DeSoto Chamber of Commerce.

Ms. Hallmark read the agenda item and introduced Cammy Jackson, President of the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce, who presented the report. Eve Williams, Tourism Chair of the Chamber presented the financial portion of the report.

I. ITEMS OF COMMUNITY INTEREST

Mayor Pro Tem Valentine announced a Literary Cafe to be held Thursday, March 3rd in the Civic Center, which includes a tour of the DeSoto Library and is sponsored by a DeSoto Arts Commission Arts Grant.

Ms. Valentine also announced the Corner Theatre production "Flying West" will begin February 11th, with showtimes Fridays at 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Evening performance tickets are $20, matinee tickets are $15. This Saturday, February 12th the performance will be honoring the life and legacy of Barbara Battles, mother of Mayor Pro Tem Denise Valentine.

Councilmember Lockhart announced the Concerned DeSoto Citizens GospelFest on Sunday, February 20th in the Civic Center Bluebonnet Rooms beginning at 4 p.m. Tickets sold benefit the CDC scholarship program. For more information, you may phone 972-230-4248.

Councilmember Zander announced that he and his wife had received assistance from two DeSoto firefighters who helped them navigate the road when they got stuck coming up Cockrell Hill Road. Mr. Zander thanked them for their assistance.

Councilmember Zander welcomed a new business in DeSoto - Real Time Sports on North Hampton Road.
