3. Discussion of Arts Commission's proposed Marketing Strategies for the Corner Theater.

Kathy Jones introduced Phyllis Jeff, Chair of the Arts Commission. Councilmember Denise Valentine, who serves as the Council liaison to the Arts Commission, presented a short PowerPoint presentation with newspaper articles regarding the arts in the Metroplex.

Ms. Jones presented the marketing strategies developed by the Arts Commission.

Council discussion regarding subsidizing ticket costs, target audience, advertising dollars, season tickets, and the City's vested interest in these projects.

It was the consensus of Council to consider this funding at a future meeting.

1. Invocation by: Reverend Mel Caraway, First United Methodist Church.

2. Pledge of Allegiance led by Councilmember Deshaundra Lockhart.

3. Ambassador: Terri Kordsmeier, Fire Department.
Terri has been employed with the City of DeSoto since August of 2007 as an Administrative Assistant for the Fire Department. She grew up with a great affection for fire service because her oldest brother was a New York City Fireman.

Terri moved to DeSoto in 1979 from the state of New York as part of a relocation by Mobil Oil Corporation. Terri is married to her husband Jim and they have two adult children who both attended DeSoto schools. Terri enjoys traveling and shopping.

Little Known Fact: In their spare time, Terri and Jim own and operate a gift shop in downtown Cedar Hill called “A Touch of Texas”.

Councilmember Williams inquired why the minutes were so old.

Ms. Hallmark explained the minutes were in arrears prior to her taking the position of City Secretary. Mayor Waddle further explained that due to health issues, the minutes were behind.

Mayor Waddle announced the week of Awareness, Reflection, and Dialogue.

Councilmember Valentine announced the DeSoto Arts Commission come and go reception Sunday, February 8 from 3 - 5 p.m. in the DeSoto Corner Theater, which will provide a preview of the upcoming season.

Councilmember Lockhart announced the Tri-City Animal Shelter offering microchip servicing from 10 a.m. -2 p.m. on Saturday, February 14th, 1150 E. Pleasant Run Road in Cedar Hill.

Councilmember Respess announced the DeSoto Dining and Dialogue dinner on Saturday, February 28, 2009 as a wrap up to the week of Awareness, Reflection, and Dialogue. To register, visit the City web site under the Community tab.
