1. 8:30am - Welcome from the City of Granbury
Mayor Sherman welcomed everyone to the City Council Summer Retreat. He then introduced Jennilee Latimer, Granbury Sales Manager who provided a few words and gave the introduction of Mayor Pro Tem Nin Huelett.
Mayor Pro Tem Huelett entertained questions from the DeSoto City Council regarding Granbury statistics, their convention center, tax rate, beer and wine sales and the convention center's seating capacity.
2. 8:45am Begin Topic Discussions
Dr. Richardson, City Manager, gave the City Council an overview of the agenda to include updating the City of DeSoto Business Plan.
3. Municipal Court
Discussion included the following:
*Municipal Court dynamics (currently, the Municipal Court is under the Finance Department and shared services between Cedar Hill and Lancaster)
*Technology (discussed an attempt to go "paperless")
*Education/certification of employees
*Communication
* Jail Staffing/Funding from Cedar Hill and Lancaster (i.e. due to an increase in jail population by individuals who are not residents of DeSoto)
*Court Marshall (discussion regarding lost revenue with regards to warrants and the need for a dedicated Marshall.
*Internships for schools
Comments from Council included that they have always been impressed by the level of professionalism with adults and especially children.
Recommendation from staff:
* Judge Scott Kurth as the DeSoto Municipal Judge at the DeSoto Municipal Court with an annual salary plus City benefits, of $130,000.
It was the consensus of the City Council to move forward with the recommendation of Judge Scott Kurth as a full time Municipal Judge at the DeSoto Municipal Court with a salary of $130,000 with City benefits.
